Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as head coach of Indian Men’s Cricket Team

Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as head coach of the senior men Cricket team. Announcement has made by Jay Shah on 09th July i.e Tuesday. The cricket advisory committee Mr. Ashok Malhotra, Mr. Jatin Paranjpe, Ms. Sulakshana Naik on Tuesday recommended Gautam Gambhir as Head coach of Senior Indian Cricket Team.
Rahul Dravid is stepped down from head coach position with the T20 World Cup which is held in United States and West Indies Jointly and he fitted one more feather in the crown with winning this world Cup. Under Rahul Dravid India reached finals against South Africa and won India’s second T20 World cup. India Reached World test championship and ODI 50 overs World Cup in 2023.
“In his new role as Head Coach of Team India, Gambhir will be responsible for overseeing the development and performance of the Indian cricket team,” the BCCI said in a media release. “His focus will be on developing a culture of excellence, discipline, and teamwork, while also nurturing young talent and preparing the team for future challenges on the global stage.”

Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward. “His clear vision for Team India, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey.”

Speaking of his appointment, Gambhir wrote on X: “India is my identity and serving my country has been the greatest privilege of my life. I’m honoured to be back, albeit wearing a different hat. But my goal is the same as it has always been, to make every Indian proud. The men in blue shoulder the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians and I will do everything in my power to make these dreams come true!”

Lauding the services of Dravid, Shah said, “I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to Mr Rahul Dravid whose highly successful tenure as the Head Coach draws to a close. Under his guidance, Team India emerged as a dominant force across formats, including being crowned ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions! “His strategic acumen, persistent efforts to nurture talent and exemplary leadership has instilled a culture of excellence within the team and that is also the legacy his leaves behind. The Indian dressing room today is one cohesive unit standing together through challenges while revelling in each other’s success.”

Gautam Gambhir’s History as a Coach/Mentor

Although Gambhir hasn’t coached before, he has been a consultant for several IPL teams, mostly Kolkata Knight Riders, who were champions this year. First time ever he mentored Lucknow Super Giants team twice in IPL career and he successfully made them to place in qualifiers.
As a player, he participated in India’s 2007 and 2011 World Cup victories. During Gambhir’s 12-year international career (2004–2016), he played in 37 T20Is, 147 ODIs, and 58 Tests.

Gambhir’s first assignment as Head Coach

He will be leading team India with Sri-Lanka tour which features 3 ODIs and 3 T20 and ending tour on July 27. And tenure will be till 2027 ODI world cup.
For current ongoing series against Zimbabwe VVS Laxman is with team India as Temporary head coach as Gautam Gambhir was not selected as Head coach at that time. 

Support Staff of Indian Cricket team

The cricket association also congratulated all support staff for best career ahead. Mr. Paras Mhambrey, T. Dilip, Vikram Rathour are ending their career as Bowling Coach, Fielding Coach and Batting Coach respectively. 
Most probably Abhishek Nair as set to appoint as Batting coach of Team India as he has a rich experience of working together with many of the player in Indian Cricket team. And, he has experience of Working together With Gautam Gambhir. Abhishek Nair’s appointment is looks firm where Vinay Kumar’s selection as bowling coach is quite surprised.
The BCCI yet to make formal announcement regarding bowling Fielding and Batting coach and expected to make decision soon.
